The Hitachi TagmaStore Network Storage Controller NSC55, powered by Hitachi Universal Star Network™ crossbar switch architecture, enables virtualization of external storage, logical partitioning, and universal replication in a rack-mounted, small-footprint package. The Hitachi NSC55 provides entry-level enterprises or individual departments in large organizations with performance, availability, and reliability, as well as advanced data/storage management and replication features. It allows users to aggregate heterogeneous storage devices into a virtual pool and manage them through a single, centralized console using a common set of tools to simplify their storage environments. Scaling up to 72TB of internal capacity, the NSC55 enables management of as much as 16PB of internal and external storage through a single console. It features controller-based virtualization and management of as much as 16PB of internal and attached storage, eight logical partitions, dedicating cache, ports, and internal/ external capacity to ensure application quality of service.

Hitachi stopped marketing the NSC55 on 10/30/2007, selling it on 04/30/2008 and announced end of life as of 07/31/2013.
